1. As a solvent, octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane is commonly used as a solvent in organic synthesis processes and can dissolve many organic substances.

3. Lubricant: Used as an additive in lubricating oil, grease, and lubricants to improve the friction performance between friction surfaces.

Method:
Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane is mainly prepared through organosilicon chemical synthesis methods, usually involving addition reactions and cyclization reactions of silicon hydrogen compounds.

production method: dimethyldichlorosilane is added into water dropwise, the temperature is maintained at 30-40 ℃, stratified, acid water is removed, oil is hydrolyzed with sodium hydroxide solution, hydrolysate and 0.5%-2% potassium hydroxide are added into the cracking kettle, and cracking is carried out at 120-140 ℃ and 99.8kPa vacuum. The lysate is fractionated and the fraction at 173-176 degrees C is collected to obtain octamethylcyclosilane.
